TMB Consulting

“Maine's gain is California's loss. Tom is one of the most knowledgeable and ethical technology consultants to nonprofits that I've met in 20 years. Highly recommended.”

Daniel Ben-Horin, President, CompuMentor/TechSoup

Tom Battin has over 25 years of experience helping nonprofit agencies implement and manage their IT strategies.  His expertise includes IT assessment and planning, database development, network planning and management, internet strategy, skills training, curriculum development, and technical documentation.  An accomplished project manager, Tom works well with stakeholders at all levels of an organization and is focused on finding an appropriate solution not just a technological one.  He has worked with agencies ranging from 10 employees to 150 providing services for housing, special needs, AIDS, medical, substance abuse, education, advocacy, eldercare and the arts.  A published author, he wrote the Guide to Automating Information and Referral Systems, The Care and Feeding of Online Networks, and co-wrote The Accidental Techie.  (See the book here or the website)

Strengthening nonprofits

Nonprofits face a particular challenge in using technology.  They are usually under staffed and under resourced, yet can benefit greatly from the economies of scale provided by information and communication technology.  My goal is to help nonprofit staff clearly describe their needs, identify an appropriate solution, understand their choices, and implement a system that can be maintained for years of service.  Technology should help not hinder the critical work of an agency.
